Menswear

There’s nothing I like more than checking out the men’s style on Sartorialist during Pitti Uomo, especially when it features gutsy women bending the rules. You can tell Schuman is in his own personal playground. The shoes, the tailoring, the palettes, the mix of fabrics with pops of bright colour. Give me this over towering heels and floral prints any day.

I don’t believe January resolutions always pan out so I made my plans to eat healthier and exercise back in December (and we’ll see how that goes!) I think the new year is a good moment to try a new beauty routine however… it’s a low commitment change that is mostly based on fun and is likely to make me feel good rather than guilty come January 30. Here are my five beauty resolutions, in no particular order:

1) Instead of heavy black liner, try burgundy eyeshadow:

2) Banish the hair straightener and opt for loose waves. (Lazy bonus: it looks even better when it’s been slept on for a few days):

3) Find a bright lipstick that can work with my dry winter lips. (It’s bad):
4) Step up the hair accessory game with one of Sylvain Le Hen’s accessories, preferably the oversize gold barrette!
5) As I tell myself every year, try to have freshly painted nails all the time. I know I will start off well and flake out mid-year, but it’s a good resolution. Oh, and NO TO NAIL ART:

It has finally happened. I’m secretly looking forward to colder weather. How awesome are these rag & bone jeans?

It’s high time to try terracotta eyeliner, as seen here at Marni.

We should all be so lucky.

We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.

Dreams of Ikaria

Last summer I took a holiday on the Greek island of Ikaria, the place in Europe where people live the longest. This is doubtlessly due to the slow pace of life, abundant sunlight and healthy diet of seafood and fresh island produce (they have to do something about their wine though, I can’t live on Ouzo alone.)

The island and its surroundings are blue, white, gold. With the sun bringing Montreal temperatures near scorching (and while the nighttime protests keep the mercury rising) I’ll do anything to channel the spirit of the Agean sea! Here is a little inspiration:

Moto.

It’s been creeping up on us for quite some time now. In fact it’s been blatantly in our faces for a few seasons but if you don’t hop onto the moto jacket bandwagon now, you are missing out on something. Thoroughly impractical for Montreal’s springless transition to summer and yet so delightful. My fave is, obviously, the royal blue ACNE masterpiece. We can dream…

ACNE, ma che bello!

CRUMPET, maybe for fall…

DKNY, for right now

KARL oh yeah for all the time!

Brushed cotton perfection from KARL.

There, that’s my roundup.

The shade of things to come

Kooky is in this summer. I’m not about to abandon my preppy Wayfarers or my Alexander Wang & Lynda Farrow beauties, but these Cutler & Gross round shades are in my sights.

The flares

This Madewell photo has convinced me that these 3 items together will never stop being one of the hottest casual looks a woman can put together: white t-shirt, flared blue jeans and wedge sandals.
